How high should I mount my TV?

How high should I mount my tv or is there a correct height to mount my tv?

I’m asked these questions by every customer. Surprisingly there is no right answer. Generally I suggest the top of the tv to be 1700mm to 1900 mm from the floor, however it’s a subjective thing and depends on a few factors.

  • How big your TV is
  • Dimensions of the room
  • Type of room and it’s use
  • Construction of the wall the TV is being mounted on
  • Furniture in the room

Let’s have a look a bit deeper.

If you have a large tv going into a small room you don’t want to be lifting your head to see the screen. We would mount the tv a bit lower or vice versa for a larger room.

I mount TV’s higher in a bedroom as the angle you view the TV changes from a sitting position. Now you’re in a lying position. This way you won’t need to prop your head up thus hurting your neck.

Sometimes if your wall is a difficult construction to mount exactly where you’d like the tv to be or your tv is quite large and heavy we will need to mount it where it’s going to be safe and secure from falling down in the long term.

If you have a high cabinet under where your tv is going to be wall mounted then the top of the tv will be higher.

Have a professional install your TV

TV Installation Adelaide

Installing your TV isn’t as easy as it first appears. It sounds simple, just take your new TV out of the box and plug it in. In reality though it’s quite a complicated exercise and if you get it wrong the consequences can be costly. Here’s an Adelaide TV installation checklist and a few tips to help you.

  • Are you physically able to lift the new TV into place? If not, make sure you enlist someone to give you a hand.
  • Have you cleared enough space in the room to work safely? There’s lots of packaging inside that box and it’s going to spread out quickly. Make sure you leave enough room to work.
  • Take the time to read the assembly instructions. I know guys, it’s boring and we don’t usually read instructions, but it does help. No two TV’s go together the same.
  • Don’t put pressure on the screen with your fingers! You may think that screen is tough, but it’s actually not.  Crack the screen and your new TV is toast.
  • Make sure the screws holding the base on are nice and tight. Big TV’s are heavy and toppling over is not only bad for the TV, but it’s a safety hazard.

We were recently called to an Glenelg home to investigate what appeared to be a faulty screen on a new TV.  On closer inspection the cause of the poor picture quality became obvious. The unsuspecting client had picked up the large TV by himself and squeezed the screen with his thumbs, resulting in the screen cracking. End result was a broken TV which needed replacing, before it was even plugged in. Don’t risk breaking your new TV.

Articulated TV wall mounting bracket Rostrevor

Full Motion TV Wall Mount

This installation was completed in an outdoor entertaining area in Rostrevor. We combined the 40” LG TV with a Sanus full motion TV wall mount. Now the happy customers can point the tv wherever they want to view it. Either sitting down at the table or floating in the pool! The inbuilt cable management on the mount allows for the cables to be hidden and also kept safe from damage when the tv is extended. When the tv isn’t in use it folds back flat against the wall ready for next time. We also installed a new TV point behind the tv and connected it via WiFi to their internet connection. Shaun even cleaned up after himself!

It doesn’t matter how big or how small your job is. Adelaide Digital and WiFi can do it for you, in fact we love little jobs as much as the big ones. Even if it’s to assemble your new tv and place it onto your entertainment unit or plug everything back together after moving house. These new setups can be quite complicated to make work smoothly. Sometimes the HDMI switching can be problematic to setup, alternatively using Audio Return Control (ARC) is another solution.
